SlackDocs Documentation
Everything you need to connect Slack, set up Notion, and create AI-powered summaries that turn conversations into organized documentation.
Getting Started
Onboarding
Onboarding collects the minimum setup to get you productive fast.
Step 1 — Connect Slack: You will be redirected to Slack to approve permissions. We request only the scopes needed to read mentions and fetch context.
Step 2 — Create Notion database: We can create a recommended database automatically or you can provide your own Database ID.
Step 3 — Done: You can now trigger summaries from Slack and see results in your dashboard and Notion.
Install the Slack App
Install SlackDocs into your workspace so the bot can receive mentions and read thread context.
- From onboarding, click “Connect Slack”.
- Approve requested scopes in Slack and press Allow.
- After redirect, you’ll return to SlackDocs to finish setup.
Notion Setup
SlackDocs writes summaries to a Notion database with recommended properties.
- Provide a Notion API key for your integration.
- Let SlackDocs create the database for you, or paste your Database ID.
- Make sure your Integration has access to the database (Share → Invite Integration).

- Decisions, Action Items, and Key Insights
- A Notion page with structured properties and revision history
Where to See Results
Watch your Dashboard for new summaries and open the linked Notion page to view details.
Troubleshooting
Bot token missing after Slack install
- Revisit Onboarding and press “Connect Slack”.
- Ensure you press Allow in Slack and wait for the redirect to complete.
- If your workspace requires admin approval, ask your admin to approve the app.
No summary created after mentioning @SlackDocs
- Ensure you mentioned the bot in a thread or top-level message.
- Give it a few seconds; then check your Dashboard.
- Confirm Notion API key and Database ID are set in onboarding.
Webhook signature or auth errors
If you are self-hosting, confirm your Slack Signing Secret and function URL are configured correctly.
FAQs
Which Slack scopes are required?
We request app_mentions:read, channels:history, groups:history, im:history, mpim:history, users:read. These allow reading threads where the bot is mentioned and resolving user info.
Can I use an existing Notion database?
Yes. Provide a Database ID during onboarding and ensure the integration is shared to that database.
How do I trigger the first summary?
In Slack, mention @SlackDocs in a thread and ask to summarize.
